Divorce and Waiting Period

Hazrat Umme Salma narrates that RasoolAllah said, “The woman whose husband passes away should not apply perfume, don ornaments, jewellery or decorations of any sort, wear eye makeup such as Kohl (antimony), apply colour on the lips, teeth or gums, apply oil on the head, comb the hair (in order to beautify herself), use henna, wear silken or other gaudy dresses.”

When a woman is divorced or her husband passes away it is necessary for her to live in the same home that she shared with her husband until the waiting period is complete. It is not permissible to leave this home and go to another house.
Many women leave their matrimonial homes and go to their parent’s homes as soon as they are divorced or their husband passes away. This is against Islamic law and is a sin. It is not permissible for her to leave nor is it permissible for the in-laws to force her to leave the home as Allah Ta’ala has stated,
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاء فَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ لِعِدَّتِهِنَّ وَأَحْصُوا الْعِدَّةَ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ لَا تُخْرِجُوهُنَّ مِن بُيُوتِهِنَّ وَلَا يَخْرُجْنَ إِلَّا أَن يَأْتِينَ بِفَاحِشَةٍ مُّبَيِّنَةٍ وَتِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللَّهِ وَمَن يَتَعَدَّ حُدُودَ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ ظَلَمَ نَفْسَهُ لَا تَدْرِي لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ يُحْدِثُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ أَمْراً
O Prophet, when you [Muslims] divorce women, divorce them for [the commencement of] their waiting period and keep count of the waiting period, and fear Allah, your Lord. Do not turn them out of their [husbands'] houses, nor should they [themselves] leave [during that period] unless they are committing a clear immorality. And those are the limits [set by] Allah . And whoever transgresses the limits of Allah has certainly wronged himself. You know not; perhaps Allah will bring about after that a [different] matter.
